Allow me to introduce myself: I am Enofel. I have been a fan of the text-based role playing game MajorMUD for many years now. By far, the most popular client for this game, some would say the ONLY client for playing this game is called MegaMUD. MegaMUD is an incredible piece of software, but it is old, and has not been updated in a long time. It is time for a new MajorMUD client.
GigaMUD stomps in from the west!
Creating GigaMUD is a significant undertaking. MegaMUD does a LOT. I have much to do to get caught up to where MegaMUD was 20+ years ago before I can really start improving on it. I have some great plans for where GigaMUD can go after that, including lots of statistical analysis, graphs and charts, more real-time feedback, and other stuff too.
I have received permission to use the MajorMUD Explorer data files for the brains of GigaMUD. This is going to be fun! I will provide more information on what this means for how GigaMUD works as development continues. Basically the entire MME database will be available from inside GigaMUD, and GigaMUD will use this information to make decisions. You will be able to have different versions of the MME data for each character. You will be able to customize every bit of this data (pun intended).
As of this writing, I already have a stable telnet client with auto login, auto-attacking hostiles, auto hide/sneak, auto-get money. I will be updating this blog as development progresses.
I hope to incorporate as much user feedback as possible. Let me know what you want to see, and I’ll see what I can do!
My first goal is to reproduce the major functionality of MegaMUD. Pretty much everything but the mapping stuff. I will keep updating this blog as development progress continues.
